Who I am
My name is Moises Rodriguez, I live in Dallas, TX and work for a local VAR and I've been doing wireless networking since 2004. One of my passions is wireless, when I don't do this, I usually spend time with my family, play my guitar or read a good book.
Why I do this
I do this because I really like it, early in my career I was introduced to the 802.11 world, like many other people, I got my first job because I had to, but I ended up liking it. It was so exciting to me seeing communications happening through the air, I knew I had to somehow understand how that was even possible, it was then when I got into the certification world with vendors like Cisco and neutral vendor certifications like CWNP from which I currently hold my CWNE #186, CCNP R&S, CCNP Wireless and some others.
In all these years of doing wireless I’ve seen so many different networks, use cases, scenarios where WLANs play a very important role, from corporate offices giving wireless access to employees, to warehouses inventorying products by using wireless scanners and mobile printers. I’ve designed and deployed indoor and outdoor solutions, from the old Cisco Aironet 350 Series to the latest 802.11ac Wave 1 3700 Series and hopefully the new upcoming Wave 2 Cisco 3800s very soon.
I’ve had several opportunities to work with RTLS technologies like AeroScout implemented in an oil platform to keep tracking of employees for safety reasons, and location engines like the Cisco MSE and now CMX for analytics.
If you do wireless, you will most likely end up doing troubleshooting as well, Cisco certifications helped me a lot when it comes to configure equipment, and CWNP certifications helped when it comes to troubleshoot, to understand what is really happening at the physical layer, to carefully follow and analyze packets.
In summary, I do this because I enjoy it, there is of course no joy when something is not working, but as soon as you understand why, then you get that feeling that you have just learned something new and life is good again. When this happens you get more experience and my very personal opinion, none of this work if you don’t share or help others which in my case are my customers.
What I can do for you
I'm a new blogger, my goal is to share work experiences that I know can help others to solve problems and learn something new. Feel free to touch base with me about new products, questions, challenges or anything you feel could be interesting for the wireless community. I'm a father of two little ones, so I blog whenever I can and I have something to share, so hang in there with me.
